When humility increases credibility
Just is one of the country’s best at conveying knowledge about the use of business intelligence (BI). But you’d never hear him say that himself. He is humble, down-to-earth, and unassuming, despite being involved in many exciting projects that others might boast about. But not Just.
It seems this humility is part of what enhances his great authority and makes him a recognized BI specialist. In other words, Just not only conveys knowledge; he conveys a strong expertise that many benefit from—whether it’s Microsoft, members of Just’s network groups, or colleagues and clients at twoday.
A proud Microsoft MVP
With a technical education behind him, it was no surprise that Just’s first job involved current technology. However, it was by chance that he ended up working with BI—a coincidence that has since become the foundation of much of his career.
It didn’t take many years in the field before Just saw a need for BI courses in the market. This led him to establish his own training company, which he successfully ran for 12 years, specializing in Microsoft BI and teaching countless students.
Parallel to running the business, he also founded the network group Microsoft BI Professionals Denmark, which has grown to over 1,200 members and held over 80 meetings. This network, driven by Just's passion for the field and desire to connect with like-minded BI enthusiasts, is a testament to his dedication.
During the years, Just has become a key ambassador for Microsoft. In 2018, this led to him receiving the official title of Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional).
"Becoming an MVP was a big moment for me. It’s recognition of the work I’ve done in sharing knowledge about Microsoft BI over the years."
Securing top experts requires effort
In 2023, Just decided to leave self-employment for a position at twoday. However, the conversation about the right position had been ongoing for several years.
“I had long considered whether the time was right to join twoday. What convinced me was twoday’s significant growth and their high professional standards, which are never compromised.”
Just has found a role at twoday where he as part of the Tech & Art team is a key figure in bringing the latest knowledge about Microsoft BI solutions to colleagues and clients alike.
A strong personal BI brand
For Just, sharing and communicating his deep knowledge of BI is more than just using tools—it’s become the foundation of almost everything he does. Both at twoday and in his network, but also through YouTube videos, LinkedIn posts, and speaking engagements at conferences.
Just has shared his BI knowledge to such an extent that he has established a strong personal brand in the BI world. This brand also gets him invited as a speaker at conferences on data, AI, and Microsoft BI across the globe.
“What I love about attending conferences is that I can share my experiences—but I can just as easily learn from others,” Just explains. That’s why he keeps up-to-date on all things BI.
The next conference where Just will be a speaker is Microsoft FabCon in Stockholm in late September 2024—a major event focusing on Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, AI, and related technologies designed for professionals and enthusiasts.
“My talk will focus on the paradigm shift happening right now, moving from a traditional Data Warehouse to a Data Lakehouse, and how we can transition from one way of working with BI to another.”
A team player with a vast network
A few days after the conference in Stockholm, Just will head to the Netherlands—a perfect illustration of how his Microsoft expertise takes him around the world. But no matter the destination or the professional themes, one thing remains constant: the people.
“It’s almost always the same people attending each time. For me, attending a conference, whether as a speaker or a participant, is just as much about maintaining networks as it is about the professional content. It’s always special to meet face-to-face with people I usually only email. And as a bonus, I’ve made friends around the world,” Just says with a smile. His emphasis on personal relationships as the core of any collaboration is clear.
This focus isn’t only true in twoday and the Microsoft world but also in his personal life, where Just enjoys beach volleyball. “I’ve played beach volleyball for over 25 years and, for the past five years, have been among the top ten players in Aarhus,” he says proudly.
The sport gives Just the necessary break from his technical work and has been a steady part of his life for many years. Besides beach volleyball, he is also a passionate AGF fan and follows the team’s matches closely. One thing that the sports world and Just’s technical field have in common is the importance of good communication to advance both athletes and technical specialists.
